New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is on pace to make home run history, but he’s doing so during a bad season that’s distracting people away from his success. The Yankees are falling apart before our eyes and Judge is falling into the shadows as he’s on pace to break the AL single-season home run record.
If Judge breaks the record, it’d be significant because the record was set in 1961 by Roger Maris. Maris also played for the Yankees and hit 61 total homers over the 1961 season.
Judge is also one of the only factors in New York holding the team together. The Yankees have only won one series between now and July, and things are only looking worse as time goes on.
Yankees top players continue to join the injured list
Some of New York’s top players are on the injured list, and some more reliable ones are joining the list now. The most recent addition is outfielder Andrew Benintendi, who was traded from the Kansas City Royals at the deadline.
Benintendi is out with a broken bone in his right hand and is scheduled for surgery. His recovery will determine when he can return. He joined a laundry list of other key players, particularly in terms of the pitching staff, on the list.
Giancarlo Stanton just came back from injury, but his return isn’t promising. He’s getting acclimated to playing again after being out for just over a month, which is expected.
The Yankees are facing a major downfall with most of their backbones out or coming back to full capacity, and Judge’s achievements are unfortunately flying under the radar.
