The Atlanta Braves are fighting to pass the New York Mets in the NL East division standings during the final stretch of the season. As of Tuesday afternoon, the defending World Series champions are just one game behind the Mets, so when they watched the Mets lose on Sunday, it called for a celebration with the song “Narco.”

Braves fans gathered around Truist Park in Atlanta to watch the Mets vs. Washington Nationals game being broadcast on the jumbotron during a rain delay in the fifth inning. The Atlanta fans that stuck around for the entire delay got to witness two exciting moments: the Mets losing and a true Braves celebration of the loss with Narco blasting through their speakers.

The song has become one of the most anticipated and iconic parts of Mets baseball with reliever Edwin Diaz running out to it every time he enters the game.

Atlanta Braves have a very real chance of winning the NL East division

The Braves have been doing much better than the Mets lately, despite New York being in the first place spot since April.

According to Jack Vita of FanNation, “The Mets have not spent a single day out of first place since April 11. Entering play June 2, the Mets had a 10.5 game-lead over the division’s next closest team: the Atlanta Braves. Since then, the Mets have gone 50-33. The Braves have simply been better. The Braves are 61-24 over the same stretch.”

The Mets also lost to the Nationals, who have been one of the worst teams in the league this season. They lost 7-1 two days in a row, which cost them the series.

Atlanta could realistically win the NL East division if both teams continue on the paths they’re on.
