New York Yankees announcer Michael Kay didn’t hold back his thoughts about the Oakland Athletics stadium during the broadcast on Thursday night.

New York Yankees announcer Michael Kay made it very clear he didn’t like the Oakland Athletics stadium during the broadcast on Thursday night. Kay wasn’t impressed to make some new furry friends (or foes) while in Oakland.

He had an exchange on-air with analyst John Flaherty that summed up his disapproval.

Kay told Flaherty, “John, don’t lean too close to the desk because there are ants all over it.”

Flaherty then responded with, “Yeah, I saw those before.”

Kay finished the conversation with, “It’s great. And that’s just some of the critters we’ve been warned about. There are actually opossum cages behind us so they can catch them…I’m not making it up.”

It doesn’t seem like the Athletics invest much in their stadium or their franchise. The team is struggling and could undoubtedly use a lot of help.

Oakland A’s are struggling all around and Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay let them know it

Oakland is, statistically, one of the worst teams in the league this season. Among all MLB teams, they have the worst batting average (.215) and on-base percentage (.279). They have the second-worst slugging percentage (.343) and OPS (.622).

Their rotation has slightly more potential, but they’re still below league average. They have the seventh-worst ERA (4.33), 10th-worst opponent batting average (.248) and eighth-worst WHIP (1.32).

They have no chance of making it to the playoffs, according to FanGraphs. They sit at the bottom of the AL West division standings with a low winning percentage of .362.

This isn’t unusual for them, however. They haven’t appeared in a World Series since 1990 and haven’t won one since 1989. The Athletics have a lot of improvement to do to both their team and their stadium.
