MLB just released the 2023 season schedule, and all 30 teams will officially play each other. The season will be an exciting one with several World Series rematches that don’t typically happen in the regular season.

The World Series has brought together many top teams that rarely play regular season games against each other. 2023 will include all of the best World Series rematches.

Here are three rematches — at least in recent history — to get excited for.

World Series rematch to watch for in 2023: Boston Red Sox vs Los Angeles Dodgers

The Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers World Series of 2018 was one to remember. The Red Sox won their ninth title, but the Dodgers put up a good fight. The series lasted five games with Boston winning the first two at Fenway Park, losing the third at Dodger Stadium, then winning the next two games.

The Dodgers and the Red Sox both finished at the top of their division standings that season with winning percentages of .564 and .667, respectively. The Red Sox haven’t been to the World Series since, but the Dodgers won the title in 2020.

The two franchises are some of the wealthiest in MLB, so they’re usually stacked with talent. The Red Sox have had issues this season, and the Dodgers have been a top team in the league. 2023 will bring an intriguing rematch between the two teams.

World Series rematch to watch for in 2023: Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Dodgers

The Astros vs. Dodgers World Series of 2017 became one of the most controversial series in MLB history. The Astros won and were later linked to a sign-stealing scandal.

The series itself, however, was extremely entertaining and competitive. In 2017, the Astros had one of their best seasons. They had their second-highest franchise winning percentage (.623).

According to The Athletic, “Offensively, the Astros were one of the best teams in baseball. They led MLB in runs scored (896), batting average (.282), on-base percentage (.346) and slugging percentage (.478). Astros second baseman Jose Altuve won AL MVP.”

The Astros are still one of the best teams in MLB and currently have a better winning percentage (.637). Their 2023 rematch against the Dodgers will likely bring with it much intrigue around the sport.

World Series rematch to watch for in 2023: Chicago Cubs vs Cleveland Guardians

The Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Guardians rematch of the 2016 World Series will be an exciting one. The initial matchup was interesting considering each team’s respective title drought.

The Cubs won the 2016 title, which marked their third World Series win. Their first and second were back to back in 1907 and 1908. They hadn’t played in a World Series since 1945 before that.

The Guardians have only won two titles in franchise history. Their last win was in 1948 and their last appearance before 2016 was in 1997. This season, they lead the AL Central standings, proving the team is going through necessary development.

Each roster has significantly improved over the years, so the matchup that seemed unlikely in 2016 will be a fun rematch to watch in 2023.
