A pair of St. Louis Cardinals helped to combine for some ‘old-man’ history in their 13-0 beating against the Colorado Rockies.

Age is nothing but a number to this year’s St. Louis Cardinals. At least that was the case for them on Thursday during their beat down against the Colorado Rockies.

The 13-0 win by the Cardinals over the Rockies came with some ‘old-man’ power and history. Two of their active veterans did something no other 40-year-olds ever have in the same game.

Over-the-hill Cardinals scaled the Rockies with ‘old-man’ history from two legends

How can you possibly beat a team with Albert Pujols sitting around at 42-years-old and capable of coming off the bench to hit a grand slam? The Rockies didn’t have an answer. He must have remembered to do his morning walk at the mall to keep limber.

The third-inning blast poured the punishment on Colorado. The Cardinals already had a 6-0 lead at the time. Pujols’ humdinger with the bases juiced (not prune juiced either) put this one out of reach for Colorado for good.

Bats were clicking and so were the bones of the player with the biggest hit of the game. He even managed to add an RBI single later on for the lucky 13th run of the game.

Perhaps even more impressive than Pujols’ achievement is what Adam Wainwright did on the mound. Any 42-year-old big leaguer can succeed in the right time and place and go yard. It takes a whole different kind of special athlete to toss 7 shutout innings.

Wainwright was quite masterful, too. He allowed only 3 hits and struck out 7 batters. He wasn’t feeling his age in this one. Despite the big lead, there was no need for him to turn it down to catch one of his stories. He knows how to record things and watch them later on.

The only thing missing from this game was something crazy from catcher Yadier Molina. He turned 40 last month and could have definitely provided a little ageless wonder of his own. Unfortunately, he was 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts in this one.
