The Seattle Mariners have made a statement against the Toronto Blue Jays through the first two games of their four-game series. But it was Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez who went viral for a a blunder on a play during their July 8 game.
In the bottom of the first inning, Rodriguez hit a fly ball to center field, getting to second base easily. Rodriguez tried to stretch it into a triple, but he stumbled and fell just short of third base, getting tagged out.
The Mariners decided to have some fun with it, as they drew an outline of Rodriguez’s body near third base, which was blocked off by cones and caution tape.

If you thought Seattle had fun with this, Rodriguez took it a step further. He actually inspected his outline in the dirt while wearing water wings, poking fun at himself desperately trying to reach third base in the aforementioned play.
Seattle was able to pick up the 5-2 win in the 11th inning on a three-run homer by Eugenio Suarez.
Rodriguez has played at a high-level in his first season in the majors. Through 84 games, the outfielder is slashing .277/.336/.484 while recording 15 home runs, 43 RBI, 50 runs scored, and 88 hits. Rodriguez leads the league with 21 stolen bases.
