Recent Chicago Cubs rumors hint at the possibility of a Kyle Hendricks trade and these three teams should be in the market to add him.

Many of the summer Chicago Cubs rumors have focused on the soon-to-be free agents Willson Contreras and David Robertson. They are natural fits to get traded. So is outfielder Ian Happ whose positional flexibility makes him a match for nearly every team out there.

What about the starting pitcher that teams have been trying to pry away for years, Kyle Hendricks?

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman expects plenty of Cubs rumors about Hendricks on the trade block. Despite holding a 3-6 record and 4.90 ERA through 14 starts this year and a rough year in 2021, Heyman expects teams to look at his past track record of success. Hendricks has been a big part of the Cubs’ success since debuting in 2014. While overlooked at times, he might be a nice asset for any of these three teams to chase at the trade deadline.

1) Cubs rumors: Kyle Hendricks might be the reliable arm the Mets are missing

The New York Mets are all in this season except when it comes to completely depleting their farm system. The current regime has been careful to hold onto prospects like Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty. We shouldn’t expect them to have the need to trade either to acquire Hendricks whose best days may be behind him.

Hendricks would be an upgrade over Carlos Carrasco whose recent struggles have fans doubting his sustainability over the course of a full season. Chris Bassitt hasn’t been particularly sharp of late either. Then there’s the whole injury concern with Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer.

The Mets and Cubs made a trade last summer when Pete Crow-Armstrong was dealt to Chicago for Javier Baez and Trevor Williams. Could someone like Ronny Mauricio be dealt to the Cubs this time for Hendricks and maybe another piece? It might mirror what the two clubs agreed to last season while giving the Mets another option for the rotation this season and the Cubs a piece to build with in the future.
