Cubs: Clint Frazier no longer wants to be called Clint Frazier

Chicago Cubs slugger Clint Frazier has changed his name, at least according to him. As the media and fans, we can no longer call him Clint. Sorry.

Clint Frazier collected two hits in his Triple-A game Tuesday night in Iowa. In doing so, he was feeling himself a bit, so much so that he asked his teammates and even the media to refer to him as ‘Jackson’ from now on.

Why Jackson, though?

Apparently Jackson is Clint’s middle name, and his family has been calling him by that name for quite some time. Yet, Clint went with Clint because he thought there wasn’t another option.

Unfortunately, he is still listed as Clint Frazier on Baseball-Reference and most team and league websites, so that is going to take some getting used to. It’s like when Dee Gordon wanted to go by Dee Strange-Gordon. Eventually, the baseball world caved, but it took some time.

Cubs: Can Jackson Frazier works his way back into MLB mix?

Frazier does have some past success in the big leagues, with both the Yankees and Cubs, so he’s a good target to make it back to the MLB level some day at least on a limited basis.

When Frazier was DFA’d, rather than seek out a new home via free agency, he opted to accept the relegation, and was sent to Iowa instead. There, he’s tried to retool his swing and make some minor adjustments in hopes of returning the Wrigley someday soon.

Fraizer enjoyed his time in Chicago so much he’s willing to take on the role of long-term project. That’s saying something.

Considering their status near the bottom of the NL Central, the fit makes sense for both sides. Frazier wants to make it back, and Chicago wants to see what they have in the former top prospect. It’s a win-win.
