The Boston Red Sox are on a hot streak, and they also received some good news regarding starting pitcher Chris Sale.

The Boston Red Sox recently completed a four-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners over the weekend, and have watched free agent signing Trevor Story hit five home runs in the series. Things could not possibly get better for the Red Sox. But maybe it is.

When speaking with the media ahead of their game against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, manager Alex Cora said that starting pitcher Chris Sale has completed a bullpen session and is set to have another one next week. That is when Cora said that Sale could have a live batting practice in the near future.

Red Sox: Chris Sale throws bullpen session

Sale has not pitched at all this season as he is still recovering from a fractured rib cage suffered this past February. A couple of weeks ago, team president Chaim Bloom said Sale suffered a setback in his recovery as he dealt with a “personal medical issue.”

Following the 2019 season, Sale underwent Tommy John surgery, sidelining him for the entirety of the 2020 campaign. He made his return to the team in Aug. 2021, where he started in nine regular-season games. Sale put up a 5-1 record, a 3.16 ERA, a 1.336 WHIP and 52 strikeouts over 42.2 innings.

Sale also pitched in three playoff games for Boston.

Red Sox fans will just have to be a bit more patient, but Sale seems to be trending in the right direction and getting that much closer to a return.
