Albert Pujols tried to steal a base in 2022 and it went exactly as you’d imagine

While the return of Cardinals legend Albert Pujols was celebrated in St. Louis, speed isn’t necessarily his strong suit.

The Cardinals took on the Brewers in Milwaukee, and Pujols tried to steal third base for reasons unbeknownst to the rest of the world.

As most baseball fans could guess, it did not go in his favor — Pujols was thrown out easily at third base.

Now, perhaps this was a missed sign on Pujols’ part, because it’s tough to believe at this point in his career he wouldn’t know his own limitations. Either that, or the 42-year-old is having a mid-life crisis.

Cardinals: Albert Pujols return a welcome sight

Pujols and the Cardinals are still in the honeymoon phase, but at some point fans will adjust to the very reasonable expectations of what the future Hall of Famer can provide this team.

At this stage of his career, Pujols is primarily a designated hitter against left-handed hitters, and a pinch hitter of the bench with a lot of power. As a part-time DH, Pujols can manage his workload and make the most of his at bats, as he did with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.

He doesn’t have to be an everyday starter, and the Cardinals will not ask him to be that unless injuries get in the way.

For now, though, someone ought to tell him his base-stealing days are behind him.
