Chicago White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn left his final spring training start with an injury. Will he be ready for Opening Day?

White Sox fans are right to be concerned about Lynn’s injury, as he’s set to be a top-of-the-rotation starter for a Chicago team expected to win the AL Central. Lynn was diagnosed with right knee discomfort on Saturday night after leaving his final spring training start.

Lynn also suffered a right knee issue late last season which sidelined him. If this injury is related to that, he will almost certainly be out at least a few weeks, and therefore not be on the roster for Opening Day.

Lance Lynn injury: White Sox pitching staff takes another hit

The White Sox have had a rough go of it lately, especially as it pertains to their pitching staff. This weekend, they’ve traded Craig Kimbrel to the Los Angeles Dodgers and lost Garrett Crochet to Tommy John surgery.

Anything serious with Lynn, and it’s officially time to sound the alarms on the south side.

If Lynn is forced to miss any starts, expect long relievers Reynaldo Lopez or Vince Velasquez to step into the rotation in his place. Neither is a reliable option long-term, but hopefully Lynn won’t miss too much time.

Lynn has been a regular top-5 finisher in the AL Cy Young standings the last three seasons, including last year, when he posted a 2.69 ERA.
