The news of Kris Bryant signing his head-turning seven-year deal was an absolute stunner to countless people.

What in the heck were the Colorado Rockies thinking? That’s the question MLB fans were asking themselves when the team shocking signed Kris Bryant to his seven-year deal worth $182 million.

While Bryant is no question a great talent, there’s just no way he’s worth that kind of money. According to insider Robert Murray, several MLB execs were taken aback by Colorado’s decision to give the third baseman his new deal.

The Rockies signing Kris Bryant to his seven-year deal made no sense

This kind of reaction from baseball executives isn’t a surprise. From the moment this deal was reported, Twitter went nuts with some priceless reactions. Bryant has a great glove and bat, but surely Colorado could have tried to sign him to a more affordable agreement.

Bryant just turned 30, so he’s still got plenty of great baseball still ahead of him. For the Rockies, however, they’ve struggled mightily in the NL West in recent years and they need more than Bryant to make noise in the division in the near future.

There’s no way Colorado is going to be able to stay close to the Dodgers anytime soon either. Los Angeles was able to strengthen its lineup with the addition of Freddie Freeman. As things stand, the Dodgers are the favorites to win the World Series this upcoming season.

For the Rockies, they’ll need some luck to even get into the playoffs in 2022. The signing of Bryant is exciting for the fans moving forward, but it didn’t make any sense from a financial standpoint. People are going to be questioning this decision from the Colorado front office for quite some time.
