Alex Cobb confirmed what MLB fans already knew, Shohei Ohtani wants to be the best in the world.
San Francisco Giants pitcher, Alex Cobb, who last season was a Los Angeles Angel, shared a story about his offseason workout with Shohei Ohtani. He revealed that Ohtani is trying to break world records.
This proves how fierce of a competitor Ohtani is. Ohtani already has an MVP award under his belt. His 46 home runs were third in the league last season, and he is the first player in history to be selected as a pitcher and batter to the All-Star Game.
Due to Ohtani’s physical abilities and personality, many see him as the face of the league.
Former Yankees left-hander, CC Sabathia, even said he is the best player he has ever seen, on his R2C2 podcast.
“I keep saying this, and people always laugh at me when I say this, but he’s the best baseball player I’ve ever seen in my life,” Sabathia said of Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani. “Are you kidding me? He can hit the ball 900 feet and throw 99 [mph] off the mound. Who else can do that? Who else is doing that, bro? There’s nobody else is doing that at the big-league level.’’
What is next for Shohei Ohtani?
One record Ohtani could end up breaking in the upcoming season is most combined plate and batter appearances. And, of course, he’d be breaking his own record — he totaled 1,172 in the 2021 season. He has the luxury of being a pitcher and a hitter, so this record should be right up his alley. Ohtani has accomplished a lot in such a short time as a professional. But based on the conversation he had with Cobb, he is nowhere near finished.
