Things looked dire for the 2022 MLB season when the league and MLB PLayer’s Association went deadline after deadline without a deal. Ultimately, the two sides ultimately voted yes to the new collective bargaining agreement, ensuring a 162-game season would begin on Apr. 7.

Following approval, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred told the media that he feels he has been successful in having a good relationship with the players. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright gave a blunt response to Manfred’s comments, which you can read below, courtesy of Associated Press baseball writer Jake Steiner (h/t ABC News).

“To just put it bluntly, he doesn’t do anything for us,” Wainwright said. “I know how that’s going to read, so Commissioner Manfred, don’t take it personal. That’s just how it looks from a players’ standpoint.”

There were numerous players who were asked how Manfred could improve, which you can view in the link provided above.

The lockout was implemented back in early December and lasted a total of 99 days. In fact, there was a 43-day gap before the league and it’s owners made an offer to the player’s union. After multiple deadlines did not result in a deal, the league “canceled” the first two weeks of the season. But, those games are now back on the schedule with a CBA in place.

After the vote was ratified, Manfred spoke to the media, where he apologized to the fans for the length of the lockout. Additionally, Manfred said he hopes that players see the agreement as an “olive branch.”

Manfred is hopeful that he can repair the relationship with players. Only time will tell.
