After news broke that San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. is set to miss time with a fractured wrist, the Padres community reacts.

With the MLB lockout finally over, players are back at the bat as they prepare for the imminent season.

Unfortunately for the San Diego Padres, it looks like Fernando Tatis Jr. won’t be a part of Opening Day festivities. Tatis Jr. reportedly has a fracture wrist and could miss the first three months of the season.

A decision on surgery has yet to be made, which could sideline Tatis Jr. for even more time.

Understandably, Padres fans weren’t too enthused to hear about Tatis Jr.’s injury.

Twitter reacts to Fernando Tatis Jr. wrist injury news

Although Tatis Jr. is a beloved superstar with the Padres, he doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to staying healthy.

One Spanish sports account questions how Tatis Jr. broke his wrist while on vacation.

“Irresponsibility? Bad luck? How do you break your wrist on vacation? In short, Tatis Jr. will go to the operating room for a fracture and will miss several months,” reads an English translation of the tweet.

One possible explanation for how Tatis Jr. broke his wrist is the news that he suffered a motorcycle accident in December 2021. If left undiagnosed and untreated, the speculation is that Tatis Jr. wasn’t able to undergo proper treatment until the lockout ended and he arrived at camp. A.J. Preller did note to media that the wrist injury was “an older injury from the offseason.”

While Tatis Jr. didn’t signify what exactly caused his wrist to break, he did confirm that the MLB lockout played a role in his recovery.

Journalists are also upset by the news, with Bob Nightengale describing it as “awful.”

Some are already thinking ahead at what the injury means on the field, which could be an increased opportunity for CJ Abrams.

While the injury raises many questions in the coming months, some are taking the moment to cope with losing Tatis Jr. yet again to injury.

If Tatis Jr. returns within three months, fans could potentially see him by late June or early July.
