The Minnesota Twins have just strengthened their starting rotation, trading for former All-Star hurler Sonny Gray.
While free agency news has been dominating the attention of baseball fans since the MLB lockout ended, leave it to the Minnesota Twins to pull off a big-time trade in the middle of things. Veteran starting pitcher Sonny Gray is headed to Minnesota from Cincinnati and Twins fans are jacked up.
The news of the deal just broke, with Gray and minor leaguer Francis Peguero joining the Twins, while Cincinnati has received 2021 first-round pick Chase Petty in return.
Sonny Gray being traded to the Twins sends a statement to the rest of the AL Central
Minnesota is coming off a disappointing season in 2021, with the team finishing in dead last of the division, 20 games back of the AL Central-winning White Sox. Despite that poor record, there’s plenty of excitement for this club heading into the new season.
With Spring Training games starting next week too, this addition of Gray only adds to things. Gray is entering his 10th season in the bigs, playing in the All-Star Game twice. He’s posted an 82-72 record and 3.61 ERA during his career. After previously suiting up for the Athletics, Yankees and Reds, Gray will now be ready to make plenty of noise with the Twins.
