Once the MLB Lockout ends, teams will get busy solidifying their rosters prior to the 2022 season. The St. Louis Cardinals have some interesting moves they could make.

When MLB and the MLBPA are finally able to hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement, the offseason should pick right up on its fast pace course.

It is rumored that a universal designated hitter is certain to be part of the agreement.  The St. Louis Cardinals have many power hitters on the roster. Most have a position on the field where you would not want to sacrifice their defense.

The Cardinals do have a potent defense with five Gold Glove winners including Tyler O’Neill, Harrison Bader, Nolan Arenado, Tommy Edman, and Paul Goldschmidt. And, Yadier Molina is a former Gold Glove-winning, future Hall of Famer at catcher.

Cardinals: Designated hitter is an easy trade option

The Cardinals are good but they do need some complementary pieces to help out. They could use a bat to take that DH spot but occasionally spell one of the regulars if needed.

And after a season in which the Cardinals found themselves in deep trouble with pitching issues, another innings-eating starter or a strike-throwing reliever would certainly be an asset in a season with such high expectations for the Cardinals.

With this expected to be the final seasons for Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina, the pair, and their teammates, want them to go out on top. Nothing but a World Series championship will be enough for these Cardinals and management will surely make moves to reflect these wishes.

Let’s discuss some players the Cardinals could seek out via trade after the lockout ends.
